Korean Lunar New Year "Seollal" 2024!
Seollal- a festive period of tradition and renewal!
Lunar New Year, or Seollal as it's called in Korean, marks the first day of the new year according to the lunar calendar. It's a time to honor traditions, spend time with family, and prepare for a fresh start. Here, we take a closer look at how this holiday is celebrated in Korea and how it's mixed with the beauty world, especially through K-beauty!
Holiday Highlights: "Cha-Rye", " Dduk-gook " and "Hanbok".
On Seollal, Koreans typically have three days off. The first day of the new year is traditionally dedicated to an ancestral remembrance ceremony known as Cha-Rye . During this ceremony, food and drink are arranged on an altar dedicated to the ancestors, with the eldest member of the family leading the ritual. A ritual bowing called " Sebae " is performed by the youngest family members to show respect and convey New Year's greetings to older relatives.
A special dish associated with Seollal is " Dduk-gook " , a rice cake soup. It is believed that the soup makes people a year older, and it is not uncommon for children to try to eat more bowls to grow up faster. The rice cakes in the soup are shaped like coins to bring happiness and good welfare. Families gather to enjoy the food consisting of the rice cake soup together, " Pa-jeon" Korean pancakes made with spring onions, " Galbijjim" beef rib chop and dumplings and more.

Traditional attire
Many people also wear traditional clothing called " Hanbok " to celebrate the occasion. It is most common for newlyweds and young children to wear this traditional attire. Children and teenagers often play traditional Korean games called "Kong-gi" and "Yoot".
